I see a lot of restaurants run by managing partners these days. How is a managing partner different from the more traditional general manager?

I'm considering an Industry Change.
I've been an Operations Manager (at various companies - all "interior design" based) for about 12 years now, and I am totally burned out by this industry.
I think managing a gym would be fun, exciting and rewarding. Also, would it help if I was a certified fitness instructor to get a managing job? Would it matter?

It would help if you were a fitness instructor, but it isn't required. Basically if you hired trainers who were certified, then I think that would be enough. It takes alot of money and time to start any business. The equipment is obviously expensive, but overall a gym is something that many people could use. Decide what type of people you want to attract to your gym (old, young, women, bodybuilders, families) and how big you want it to be. And make sure it's in an area where it's needed.

I'm aware that there is a difference between supervising someone and managing them, but am not completly sure as to what the difference is.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A SUPERVISOR AND A MANAGER IS:

HERE AN EXAMPLE:
A MANAGER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR EVERYTHING IN THE RESTAURANT/OFFICE BUILDING. THEY HANDLE MOST OF THE FIANCES, HAVE THE POWER TO UN-FIRE YOU. BASICALLY HE OR SHE MAKES THE FINAL DECISION.

A SUPERVISOR-CAN ALSO FIRE YOU, BUT HAVE TO TAKE THIS TO THE MANGER, FIRST. HE OR SHE CAN ALSO HANDLE THE FINANCES, BUT HE OR SHE HAVE TO ASK THE MANAGER APPROVALS IF IT EXCEEDS A CERTAIN LIMIT. THEY CAN ALSO FIRE YOU, BUT THE MANGER WILL HAVE TO AGREE WITH IT, TOO. BASICALLY THEY WATCH OUT FOR YOU, MAKING SURE THAT RESTAURANT/OFFICE BUILDING HAVE ENOUGH STAFF.

SO, THAT'S THE DIFFERENCE, EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE SIMILAR DUTIES. MANAGING COMES WITH A LOT MORE RESPONSIBILITY THEN SUPERVISING.

Plus, how to support it with the informationm from the statement of cash flows?

One of my career aspirations is to work managing a portfolio of investments within a clearing house. There are only 19 of these in the world. Anyone with good ideas here? I am prepared to take my time to find the right house and the right portfolio for me.
