Could you give me own examples on contemporary management theory?
Just give me your own example/s for each sub theory on the Contemporary Management Theory:
a. Contingency Theory
b. Systems Theory
c. Total Quality Management (TQM)
Thanks.
Contingency Theory - often recognized as management by exception, contingency theory operates on the recognition that contingencies or exceptions occur, and rather than manage by those activities that are going "right", manage the exceptions, which we generally believe should be fewer. This grants more empowerment to the employees and allows management to focus on the areas that truly need improvement. It also provides for a means of contending with catastrophic events such as fires and 9/11. This theory become more prevalent in the aftermath of the 9/11 events as much of what occured in the days following was contingent management.
Systems Theory - the theory that everything interrelates, and that many things affect the problem. In saying that, when you look at a problem, you need to look at all of the influencing factors, rather that excluding things automatically because they seem like they fall outside of the root cause. Simply put, there is no one root cause, but many things that influence the end result.
Total Quality Management (TQM) - TQM is the management of the total quality of the output. That means looking at the entire supply chain and managing the quality of all of the inputs, from the initial supplier, all the way through the entire process of creating the output (product or service). Often, TQM focuses on quantitative metrics for measuring performance, and may use such methodologies as Six Sigma to quantify the effects of changes made to the process.

What is the name of the theory of promoting a bad employee to management, because they can do less damage?
I read somewhere online about a theory, about promoting poorer employees to management, because they are less likely to cause problems, being away from the frontline!
However, I can't find it again, and it's really bugging me! - "Tip of my tongue" all day!
No, not the Peter Principle - but in fact the Dilbert Principle. (When I searched for the Peter Principle Dilbert was a couple further down), so many thanks anyway - It's been bugging me all day!
Are you thinking of the Peter Principle?

Hunting has increased deer population, not reduced it Greenwich Time
It is very difficult to grasp the logic of the Fairfield County Municipal Deer Management Alliance working closely with the state Department of Environmental Protection . The FCMDMA's mission is to reduce deer populations to 10-12 per square mile. But it must be aware that the DEP's "deer management" plan doesn't include lowering deer numbers permanently, because it would result in fewer hunting opportunities for its clients, and less revenue from selling hunting licenses! One of the DEP's policies set forth in the 1974 Deer Management Act is, "to allow for a sustained yield of deer for use by Connecticut hunters."
No one complained about deer before 1974; they were killed by farmers to protect crops, mostly in the rural northwestern corner of the state. In fact, prior to the DEP's involvement in "deer management," there were fewer deer in the entire state than there are in most towns today. The purpose of the Deer Management Act was to create hunting opportunities for everyone by establishing zones, hunting seasons, license fees, and bag limits to maximize birth rates in order to raise deer numbers in the whole state.
