Should I use a life management service offered by my employer as a benefit?
I think I may be an alcoholic and, although I'm told it would remain confidential if I used this service and I know it's against the law to fire someone for having a problem with alcohol, I'm still afraid they might find some other excuse to fire me or let me go otherwise if I admit this problem and use the service. Is my fear well-founded?

the company offers this to help you and to help their bottom line.
contrary to popular believe most employers actually want what is best for their employees. take advantage of any help you can because if you have a problem and don't attempt to address it then you are legally subject to termination if it causes a performance issue.
you can not claim the protections the laws provide for alcoholism and treatment of it if you have not made the problem known and ask the employer to make an accommodation for you.
this is true of any ailment and any of the protections provided under Title VII, the ADA or any state laws that protect leaves of absence for treatment. your job can not be protected unless it is known that there is something to be protected for.
keeping medical information private and protected is why this information can not be kept in personnel files and must be maintained separately and secured so as access is limited to only those with a "legal need to know"

Non-profit opens tutoring center in Mount Pleasant Live 5 News

MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - A new center to help students get the one-on-one help they need has opened its doors. The Life Management Center non-profit welcomed students at a new site in Mount Pleasant.
"Some students have greater needs than others, but we're here to meet the needs of all," said tutoring coordinator JoAnn Thomas.
Aside from tutoring all subjects for children grades K-12, the center also helps students with organizational skills or college planning if they need it.
"We have wonderfully trained tutors who have lots of experience. We try to match the needs of the students with the tutors who are hired to help them," Thomas said.
Palmetto Presbyterian Church in Mount Pleasant donated the space for the afternoon tutoring program. There are five classrooms where the tutors, all with college degrees, will meet one-on-one with students.
"We have a lot of young families. We're very involved in the community. We have a good relationship with the high school. We felt like this would be another avenue for us to reach out to families in the greater Mount Pleasant area," Pastor Mike Fitze said.
It comes as the credit markets are showing signs of life, with prices for high-yield bonds, leveraged loans and some mortgage-backed securities returning to levels not seen since the collapse of Lehman Brothers in September.
