One local bank where I live in the U.S. starts at $10.00/hr. for teller positions. I don't know about the higher level positions.

What is the deregulation of the banking industry?
I always hear about the deregulation of the banking industry in news articles and other web articles and blogs. They say it happened in the 90's. What happened? How was it deregulated? How restrictive was it before?
Under the Glass Steagall Act, a bank could be an investment bank or a commercial bank, but not both.
The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act replaced the Glass Steagall Act, and is referred to as de-regulation, even though the act instituted new regulations.
As a result of the de-regulation, you see more banks selling securities and more brokerages offering banking products.

Interview Question Why do you want to work in the banking industry?
Hey all,
I have a few interviews coming up for some entry level internships with a few banks (both commercial and investment in divisions such as Operations and Compliance). I am a senior in college.
I was wondering what is a good answer that will score points with the interviewer to the "Why do you want to be in the banking industry?" question.
My answer to this question would be that I like the corporate work environment, set work schedule, offers challenging work, and that the banking industry is something I want to learn more about as a career. Is this a good enough answer and does it sound genuine? Let me know what you guys think. Thanks in advance!
You may also say that banking is your interest and this is also aligned to your career plans and educational background. Having this in mind, you intend to build a career in the banking industry.
How can a stock exchange consolidate activities in the banking industry?
The minimum recapitalization have just been increased significantly.What role can the stock exchange play in consolidating this event in the banking industry?
The stock exchanges play a role, but they really do not have any other influence except that of facilitating the buying and selling of securities. I really don't understand what you mean when you say "consolidate activities." But if you are referring to the consolidation of the banking sector, it has already begun. For example, JP Morgan & Chase, JP MorganChase and Bank One. You get the picture? The role of the exchange in this situation was to facilitate the merging of shares between these individual banks into one share to be traded on the Stock Exchange.
How does one get job in the banking industry in Bahrain?
I just moved to Bahrain 1 year ago. I am still getting a feel for the country which I love so far. I have a degree in accounting from Uni in Canada, what else should I study to make it in the banking industry in Bahrain? Only serious answers pls. Ramadan Kareem all.

Graduate degree in Accounting should be sufficient to get a banking job however it depends on your luck that there is some opening at this time in one of the bank. To get a banking job, be in touch with different bank's HR department and when their is some vacancy you can take that up.
Ahli United Bank in local bank and Citibank, Stanchart are foreign option.

MASS. MARKET: Idea of state-owned bank has industry talking The Patriot Ledger
Of all the various elements of Senate President Therese Murray’s new economic development bill, there’s certainly one that’s catching the attention of local bankers.
Murray wants to explore the creation of a state-owned bank.
The unusual move – there’s only one state-owned bank in the country – drew a wide range of responses from bankers as they learned about the proposal. Some say the concept is downright crazy, while others say the discussion could lead to some interesting ideas about how to stimulate economic growth.
Murray certainly hasn’t made her mind up yet. The bill that she filed on Monday would, among other things, establish a commission to study the feasibility of starting a state-owned bank. The commission would draw from leaders in the Legislature as well as quasi-public state agencies and the banking industry.
State leaders are concerned that there is not enough lending going on right now, particularly to businesses. Murray wants to see if a state-owned bank could be one way to increase the availability of credit for companies looking to grow here.
