I want to start selling on ebay, however you need a credit or debit card to be able to sell things. I have tryed to open a bank account but due to poor credit rating i am unable to.
Is there another way that people with poor credit rating open bank accounts

To start selling on eBay, you need to have either a checking account or a credit card.

This is what you can do. Goto these 2 websites, and look for "prepaid credit cards". If you are from outside the US, then enquire your local banks if they carry "prepaid credit cards".

Prepaid credit cards work like this. You put in your own money into the credit card. The amount of money you put usually becomes your credit limit. Because you are putting in your own money and the credit limit is tied to the money you have put in, so there's no risk to the bank or card issuer. Therefore, they won't check your credit rating.

As time goes by, and if you are a good paymaster, the bank or card issuer may choose to increase your credit limit.

This is also one way to improve or repair your credit rating. Show that over a long period of time that you are a good paymaster. Then you will be able to apply for a normal credit card or a checking account.

Investors have ways of learning the credit rating of companies whose stock they want to purchase. Where can I find this kind of information about a bank I want to open an account with? What is my bank's credit rating. It certainly knows mine.

Look up their stock on the exchanges where listed ~ financial information is available for publicly traded companies; including banks.

In these times ~ many suggest the credit unions are a better bet as they are much more conservative in their approach to banking and did not get involved in the huge over sell of mortgages and credit cards as the big banks did over the last few years. Some of the small banks the same can be said for actually.

What if you have No credit history?

Surely a criminal background check would have more influence

Unless you were seriously in debt - even then if you have good references you could make it

I am looking to change bank accounts and open up a new current account with either another bank or building society. Will this effect my credit rating or not? I don't think I have the best credit score but I have never had any CCJ's or been Bankrupt.

When you apply for a current account (which has an overdraft facility or credit card included) then the application involves running a credit search on you. This will leave a footprint on your credit file and if you are refused, will be recorded as a decline on your credit rating. If you don't need an overdraft/debit or credit card then you would be advised to just have a basic account if you are worried about your credit rating. (I've included debit cards because these are issued and validated by a credit company i.e.visa and so visa usually insist that a bank/building society run a credit check on all customers.
