Is accounting a good major in college?
What about finance?
Whats the difference?
Oh and what about Computer Information Systems??
Thanks
What draws your attention more is more the question to be asked ~ however, anything where you understand more deeply in moving debits and credits around ~ meaning any financial understanding ~ will do you well.
Financial companies (of all sorts) trump any growth of any other businesses in the world today.
Accountants and financial people are always needed.

I recently changed my major to accounting after taking an accounting class. I really enjoyed the class and I would like to get my foot in the door somewhere so I can hit the ground running when I graduate. I have seen some jobs like an accounting clerk that might be good but I was wondering if there are some others.
Get a job in a CPA firm as a bookkeeper, staff accountant or even receptionist. Then you are likely to be promoted after you pass the CPA exam and may even have enough experience to get licensed.
I am currently an Accounting major...What are some good minors that go well accounting? Do any of these minors help increase your overall salary? If so, which ones are the best?
i think you can go for management, this will add your management skills because top level people will consider someone that have a good technical skills supported by their management skills, ever heard of engineers will nevr get raise after they reach 40, unless they have MBAs or equivalent to management skills.
I am an accounting major, second year. I am in a community collage in Minnesota, but I plan to transfer to a 4 year collage.. I like to work 4 public accounting firms like Ernst@young... How can I make sure to land a job with these companies after graduation....any suggestions will be helpful..Thanks
I have been told by those who made it "Its not what you know, but who you know."
Since you have time, try to find some way to make a connection with someone in the Big Four. Apply for an internship if possible. If they are not local to you, try to get in with a local acct who once worked for the Big Four and perhaps you can secure a recommendation that way.
They do look at grades, extracirricular activities, and interview skills....all of which demonstrate your ability to be a good auditor.
Good luck.
I am majoring in Accounting and I enjoy Math. Would it be helpful in the field or easier to get a job or an edge over other Accounting majors if I were to do a second major in Math?
Thanks for your input.
It's usually very easy for accountants to get jobs. I do not believe having a second major in Math would be helpful. It's not going to hurt you, but I don't think any of the employers will think it is a big deal.
Accountings a great field.
Good luck.
